Justice Learning Group

Justice Learning Group

The Justice Learning Group is a FREE course for Christians who want to gain a Biblical perspective on how they can advocate for people experiencing poverty and injustice, and begin to use their time and energy for justice in their communities. While we explore modern slavery and exploitation, the course address broader themes of poverty and injustice as injustice issues rarely exist in isolation, similarly modern slavery sits within a broader ‘ecosystem’ of need which has to be considered for effective intervention. In general we will be considering ‘core principles’ for justice interventions, rather than training in particular interventions for specific issues. Although we will be considering the strengths and weaknesses of different models in modules 2 and 3.

The course involves a self- study curriculum with a mixture of talks, videos, and articles, and a monthly ‘reflection group’ where we meet online for 2 hours to reflect on what we are learning together. The curriculum is a curated selection of resources which drawn from a variety of best practice models, including some material from Red Community and some from One Collective UK. We are grateful to each of the organisations that have made their resources available for free so that we can use them. Each month the self-study material will take about 6 hours to complete, although there are optional extra resources if you want to explore a topic in more detail. The reflection groups will be arranged around the schedule of participants, with each cohort containing a maximum of 12 people, to allow for meaningful discussion in the reflection group.

The course starts in Spring 2024 and will last for 8 months. There are 4 modules:

  • Understanding justice and poverty

  • Understanding how to start helping

  • Understanding violence and poverty

  • Understanding effective advocacy
