Record levels of exploitation in UK

A new report entitled ‘Anticipating Exploitation’ has just been released by the UK’s Anti-slavery coordinator.

The report states that modern slavery is now at record levels in the UK and is only set to rise over the coming decade. The report also claims that the cost of living crisis, global instability and rapidly evolving technology are making exploitation increasingly complex and more challenging to detect and tackle.

Interestingly (and alarmingly) a rising numbers of British victims of slavery is reported, with UKL citizens now accounting for 22% of all cases.

There is much in the report to digest, much that must be done politically and also socially, and much for the church to be praying about and acting upon.

I will be posting another blog in the coming days to suggest some of the ways that the church can be taking action to stand against the injustice of modern slavery, so keep an eye out for that.

I was also privileged to be asked to speak about this new report on BBC Radio Wales this morning. You can listen to that here (my interview starts at 1:23:55).
